Energy Efficiency

Energy Efficiency is a very important concept and something that many of the major countries need to strive to improve. In an example of gross domestic product vs. energy efficiency of the top 40 economies in the world, figure 1 shows it is apparent that highly productive countries are low in energy efficiency.

Figure 1: GDP vs Energy Efficiency

This becomes very different with low productivity economies who seem to be very energy efficient. For example, Bangladesh has nearly no productivity but in what it does have it is highly energy efficient. Hong Kong is a highly productive economy and still leans to the side of moderately efficient.  The hopes would be that the United States and Canada could model themselves to be closer to the energy efficiency of Hong Kong and Austria.
